You will not have failed to notice that the main vehicle gates have not been working for the last few weeks.
The motor has now been replaced in the left hand gate and is now fully operational. All being well, the other gate will have it’s motor replaced next week.
Further works are planned to completely overhaul all moving parts and ensure they comply with current regulations
Background
The motors that control the gates have been installed for over seven years. They were reasonably maintained for a while, but instead of being replaced a few years ago, more and more money were spent to keep them going.
It is now more economical buy new motors and engage in a service contract that checks them regularly rather than just waiting for them to break down.
Unfortunately the recent weather has created a lot of work for such contractors which is delaying the motor replacement.
Once both the gates are working again, we are going to experiment with keeping them open from 9 AM to 5 PM, to reduce wear and tear and electricity costs. With all the constant comings and goings keeping the gates closed during the day offers minimal benefit. It should be noted that this will only be Monday to Friday while the maintenance team are on-site to keep an eye out for unwelcome guests.
Hi
In passed years the gates were left open from 7am to 9am and 5pm to 7pm as this was the time most people went to work and gates constantly used.
